ANATOLiVAR – Strengthening Olive Producing Communities in Anatolia has just started

While the effects of the climate crisis are being felt in agricultural production and access to healthy food is becoming hard, we started our "ANATOLiVAR" project, with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, to empower olive producers about sustainable production practices in line with the European Green Deal

With this project we aim to adopt sustainable agricultural practices in the olive sector in Turkey which is one of the world's most important olive producers, and to promote sustainable policies related to the Green Deal targets. To this end, we will carry out various activities to increase the awareness and knowledge of civil society organisations involved in the production and consumption of olives and olive oil, businesses and individuals, and provide trainings and technical support to small and medium-sized producers for transition to sustainable agricultural practices, market access and improvement of their livelihoods. We will also support the strengthening of partnerships and networks between relevant CSOs, olive producers and public institutions.

The 3-year project will be carried out in cooperation with the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK) and Slow Food in 6 olive production basins: Marmara, North Aegean, Central Aegean, South Aegean, Eastern Mediterranean and Southeast regions. During 3 years, we will carry out various analyses and field studies and create a reliable inventory database and a guidebook covering olive varieties and olive producers. We will also organise trainings, workshops, webinars, experience sharing, technical support and networking events for producers. Through using various communication tools such as documentary film, short videos and social media, we will take steps to raise awareness on the issue among consumers as well as producers.
