The Mediterranean Basin biodiversity hotspot is the second largest hotspot in the world and the largest of the world’s five Mediterranean-climate regions.
On behalf of CEPF (Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund), which is an international funding organization, we organized a national consultation workshop in 2016 that brought together representatives from a wide range of organizations (relevant public institutions, NGOs, academics) in order to update the data on Turkey’s priority Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) located in the broader Mediterranean region. The resulting updated Ecosystem Profile for the Mediterranean Basin shaped CEPF’s investment strategy in the region.
