Oak Forest Conservation Project

Some of Turkey's oak forests are under the threat of extinction. Our members, Itri Levent and Alen, are involved in the "Research on the Components of a Biodiversity Based Sustainable Management Plan for Palamut Mountain" (Dursunbey, Balıkesir) conducted by the Marmara Forestry Research Institute of the General Directorate of Forestry with the support of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Forestry Faculty, Düzce University Forestry Faculty and Bartın University Ulus Vocational School Forestry Department.

This project aims to reveal the necessary social, economic and ecological data in an integrated manner in order to manage the traditional acorn harvesting still carried out in the Palamut Mountain in accordance with the planning process, backed with a management plan, which will ensure the continuity of the region’s biodiversity.
